Contingency Plan

Contingency Plan

This documentation shows evidence that I have completed a contingency plan for the production of my film. Problems can occur at any stage of the film production process so it useful to have a back up plan, however, management of pre-production can be very costly. It is a producer’s job to anticipate potential issues and manage the problems when they present themselves, it is useful to assess the issues in advance of the production process. A contingency plan is a plan devised for an outcome other than in the main plan. It is often used for risk management for an exceptional risk that, though unlikely, would have negative consequences. It includes a list of all potential issues when filming and editing a film and what actions would be undertaken to overcome the issue if it were the occur. It is useful for a film producer to allocate 10% of the budget to the contingency plan, just in case the possible issues where to happen, they would have enough money, if necessary, to afford the actions that need to be undertaken. I have completed my contingency plan as a table, because a table is an easy way to display the needed information in an organised and efficient way. If the contingency plan was needed whilst filming or editing, then it would be easy to find out what actions should be undertaken. Completing a contingency plan impacts my final production because if a problem were the occur within the production process, then I know I have a backup plan and I wont have the delay the release of my film or cancel it. If I had not created one and a problem were to occur such as my equipment breaking or a location becoming unavailable, then my production would most likely be delayed due to spending time trying to overcome the issue and find a resolution to my problems. Some issues would be more problematic than others if a contingency plan was not created. For example, if my memory card fails then I would most likely know to drive to the nearest store, but if my location becomes unavailable then I would have to scout and find a new location which could take weeks. My contingency plan compares to professional models of practice because I have listed all potential problems in an organised way, and written how I intend to overcome them if they were to occur. I have also included a plan for what I would do if a problem occurs that I have not already thought about - these are all things that a professional film producer would do and include in their contingency plan.
