Film Treatment

Film Treatment
This documentation portrays a professional film treatment. A film treatment is a detailed summary of the film or TV show that you want to make. It contains certain scenes, the plot, character information, the tone of your film and its colour effects. It is used by film makers within the pre-production process as a marketing tool to send to film producers or companies to try and sell their work in hopes that they would want to make your film and provide financing for it. It is also used as a shorter but detailed summary of the script that a producer or screen writer can make reference to when needed, instead of flicking through a large, long script. Also, sometimes a film treatment is written before a script is created as a way for the screenwriter or producer to share their plans for the film or to structure their ideas in order to make it easier to write the script. I have completed this on a Word document as it contains a lot of text and this way it is easy to read all of the text and understand it. This is useful for my final production as it can act as a plan for me to read when creating my film. This is because it includes my full plot in detail with an explanation of characters and what type of tone I want to create, where I need to film and what my final product will look like. It also offers organisation and structure to your idea or help you develop it further. My film treatment resembles and industry standard documentation as this is a format that many film makers or producers would use, although, there is no certain way to create a film treatment.

Whilst taking pictures she hears strange noises and gets scared. She then tries to hurry outside the forest but is unexpectedly pulled backwards where she hits her head and falls unconscious. After waking, she finds that she is in a different black and white world that looks identical to her home. Trying to find her way home and taking pictures along the way whilst in a disorientated and confused state, she comes across multiple strange creatures and horrors. After struggling to find her way home she enters her house, but she is transported into her regular world and when she looks back on her camera, there is no evidence to suggest any of it was real.
The genre shown throughout the film will be horror as it features terrifying creatures and plot. It would feature many genre conventions such as tension created through music, low key lighting, isolation, high and low angles exaggerated diegetic sound and POV shots.
Setting
Most of the film will be set within a relatively dense forest in the middle of an ordinary small town or village, known as North Anston, near Dinnington.
The opening and establishing scene are set within a school classroom in Dinnington to establish an equilibrium.
Some of the start and the end of the film is set within the home of Tessa, in North Anston.
Opening scene
The film follows an unconventional narrative structure, we first enter the black and white world inside a forest where the main character, Tessa is attempting to find her way home. She is lost in dense woods wondering around until she unexpectedly comes across a monster trying to harm her, they move towards her and she ultimately screams. The film then glitches and cuts to the equilibrium before anything abnormal has happened. We now enter a typical British classroom, where the main character, Tessa, is sat near the back next to her best friend, talking about a popular television series. The teacher, Mr. Wilson, is stood at the front of the classroom and grabs the class’s attention. Now listening, Tessa and Ava now hear Mr. Wilson talk about their latest school project, a photography assignment to capture nature in its true form. Tessa talks about how she is excited, and Ava complains that she doesn’t want to do it. Tessa then mentions how she is going to go to the local woods to take pictures there, Ava then says she is crazy and that the woods is haunted, but Tessa laughs it off and tells her not to believe rumors. After saying goodbye to each other both characters exit the classroom and we follow Tessa on her journey home.
Act One
It is now dusk, and Tessa is roaming the local forest taking pictures of leaves, trees and her surroundings, she is wandering deep into the forest when she realizes that it is quite dark and should go home. However, she can't find her way back and soon becomes quite nervous and tense. She then hears a faint scream in the distance of the forest and becomes scared. This then causes her to speed walk home and we hear her assuring herself that it is her imagination out loud. But soon after she says this, she is pulled back buy an unknown force and falls unconscious through her head hitting the floor. The scene then ends and is cut to a black screen.
Act Two
Tessa wakes up in the morning but in a different universe that is black and white. She is incredibly confused and hurt, barely managing to get up. She looks around, taking pictures of her surroundings for proof of where she is. We then hear her scared and confused words and panic of her situation. She does not know what to do but assumes that her best option is finding her way home. Tessa starts walking in the same direction she first came from until she sees a black figure in the distance, thinking it is an ordinary person, she begins shouting to grab their attention. However, the closer she reaches, the more she starts to realize that they are not human but a sickly pale deformed figure that is now walking towards her, she screams, scared (this is the same scene as in the opening). She runs in the other direction until she reaches an abandoned cottage that was not there in the ordinary world. She enters the cottage, but it is extremely dark, and she struggles to see. She looks around and rummages through cupboards and draws, looking for any food or weapon, However, the only thing she finds is rotten vegetables in cupboards and bloody meat that resembles human organs and bones on the floor. In this moment alone she tries to contact a friend or family member on her phone, but no one is answering, implying that they can't. She leaves a voicemail to her mother explaining that she is lost, scared and needs help because she is in danger. After a while of laying low, she checks outside the window, but the cottage is surrounded by monsters and one is trying to enter through the front door. To escape she leaves through the back door and follows a pathway that is not surrounded. Eventually, she arrives to an empty crop field with a harvest as tall as her.
Act Three
After arriving on the field, she takes a moment to think about what to do and luckily sees a village in the distance and begins to walk that way. She walks through the crop field finally feeling safe which does not last long when she hears footsteps approaching and the crops movement. She frantically looks around, spinning in circles, scared until the terrifying creature approaches her. The creature grabs her by the neck and lifts her up.   She stares into their black eyes when she realizes that she must try to escape. She fights back and struggles to break free. She manages to escape and notices a tree branch on the floor. Quickly, she grabs it and starts fighting her attacker, they try to cause harm but fail as they are too wounded. This acts as a catalyst for the next events as it starts to rain a disturbing black liquid and she notices the strange entities watching her every move as she hurries home.
Final Scene
She comes close to her home and starts running, she sprints inside and screams for her family. Her family answers confused as to why she is so scared and desperate. She explains what has happened and how everything is black and white, however, her family informs her how the world is still in color. But she tries to make them believe her and attempts to show them pictures on her camera of the strange pictures she took. But the pictures are now in color and the strange creatures captured have disappeared. She is confused but goes to sleep in her bed. When she wakes up, the world is back in color and it was as if nothing ever happened, creating a resolution.
Film color effects
The scenes in the normal world will be very bright and colorful to create a greater contrast between the normal world and monster world.
The scenes in the monster world will be in black and white to resemble the Gothic themes and horrors conventional in many past horror films and also  to give a sense of something abnormal and paranormal.
