Pitch
Pitch
This documentation shows evidence of my pitch that I, like film makers, would use in a meeting to promote my idea and explain my concept for my film. Normally, in a formal setting this idea would be presented to producers or sometimes investors, however, I am going to present my film idea to classmates because I am only a student. I have only completed this as a paragraph in Word as it is easy to read aloud that way. A pitch is important because if you explain your idea in a desirable way then you can attract investors or producers that want to make your film, creating a source of finance that you can use to create your budget plan and produce your film. This is especially useful if you do not have the resources or money to create it on your own and need to work with a company or achieve any other possible forms of financing. This will impact my final production as I understand that a pitch can make a huge difference on your budget and access to any resources, editing software, editors, or special effects experts. If a film maker does not pitch their idea to any possible investors for film producers then they may not have a big enough budget to produce a good quality film. I know that I would have likely pitched my idea for extra funding even though my film is personally funded. Extra funding would improve the film as I would have a greater budget for better equipment, more locations and better editing software. This documentation of my pitch resembles an industry standard pitch as there is no specific way to create a pitch as you present it in a meeting and would normally have only notes and a small paragraph on paper or committed to memory. A film producers pitch completely depends on themselves and how they like to pitch and every film makers pitch will be different.
Good morning everyone, now I've only got a couple of minutes to present my idea so let's get started. My film targeted to be a YA entitled ‘Misplaced’ is a horror which is always popular with consumers of all ages and has been since the very birth of the genre. My logline is that a teenage girl, whilst completing her school project in the woods, finds herself in a completely different black and white world full of strange horrors. I have chosen the title ‘Misplaced’ as it reflects how a normal girl used to living the ordinary life of a high school student, full of drama and popularity status enters a world in which she does not belong to by getting scared and ultimately falling unconscious in the forest. We then follow her journey home as she comes across horrific creatures and experiences. My concept is unique as it is a very modern and stylistic version of a classic black and white movie, it opens in colour but as the main character enters a different world it changes to black and white. It is both extremely conventional and unconventional at the same time, featuring stereotypical young adult conventions such as high school cliques and teen issues but also elements of Gothic horror, paranormal activity and very abstract antagonists.
Questions to ask other producers in a meeting
What type of budget do you plan on having and how would you stick to it?
What is your target audience and how will you promote it to them?
